Don Hutchison was a talented young player for Hartlepool United when he caught the attention of Liverpool. He had been part of the promotion wining squad in only his second season with the club. Known for his passing ability and his fierce competitiveness he impressed at Liverpool scoring seven goals in 45 league appearances.
Hutchison made his debut for Scotland in 1999 during the EURO 2000 qualifiers in a 2-1 win. In only his second game he scored the only goal of the game as Scotland completed a 1-0 victory against Germany. Hutchison made 26 appearances for Scotland and scored 6 goals, including many memorable goals such as the only goal in a 1-0 second leg win over England during EURO 2000.
