Description
Ahead of the release of his autobiography ‘Young Millsy’ – the youngest ever winner of the European Cup Gary Mills took part in an exclsuive signing session for Superstar Speakers
Gary Mills is one of the legendary ‘miracle men’ of Nottingham Forest’s European Cup wins of 1979 and 1980.
At just 17 years and 201 days old Mills became the youngest person to ever win the European Cup, a record he still holds to this day (even including the Champions League in the Cup’s Lineage)
Simply put its another of Brian Clough’s masterstokes by giving the teenage Gary Mills a place in the team – Cloughie simply believed ‘if you are good enough, you are old enough’
Gary Mills’s football career continued throughout the 1980s with spells at Seattle Sounders, Derby County and Notts County and then into the 1990s with Leicester City where he became club captain and led The Foxes to the Premier League (via Playoffs) in 1994.
In 1996 Mills became a player – manager with Grantham Town and despite moving clubs occasionally continued to play competitive league football until 2010 when he was 47 years old – 30 years after winning the European Cup!
Gary Mills is still a football manager and currently is back in his home county of Northamptonshire as the manager of Corby Town, having followed in the footsteps of many who learnt the art of management under the great Brian Clough
