Description
One of the greatest Liverpool Legends of all time
Phil Thompson is Liverpool through and through, having supported the Reds since childhood he achieved the boyhood dream and signed for the club the day after his 17th birthday in 1971 and stayed at Anfield until he was 30 in 1984. He made 477 appearance in all competitions and scored 13 goals. Despite being well known as a Sky Sports Soccer Saturday pundit (who never hid his love of Liverpool!) he spent the start of the new milenuim as Gerard Houllier’s assistant manager and helped the club win a Treble of trophies that included UEFA, FA Cup and League Cup in 2001
The 1970s and 1980s were a golden era for Liverpool as they dominated English Football and established themselves as one of the countries big clubs
Thommo won SEVEN league titles, one FA Cup, Three EFL Cups, Six Charity Shields, Three European Cups, Two UEFA Cups and the European Super Cup
These 22 trophies make him Liverpools joint second most decorated players of all time (along with his defensive partner Alan Hansen) – One trophy behind Phil Neal
However he could of become Liverpool’s all time most decorated player of all time, as he was part of the 1984 capaigns that won the European Cup and League Title – but he didn’t play enough games as he made way for Mark Lawrenson to take his place in the Liverpool team
